Born in New South Wales 1989, Steve Smith began his career in England playing club cricket for Sevenoaks Vine in Kent. With dual British and Australian citizenship, he became a member of the Australian team and took part in the 2008 under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. He became a regular in the Australian national team from 2013 and took over as captain from Michael Clarke in late 2015. During the 2017-2018 Ashes series in Australia, Steve Smith enjoyed an epic run of successes as captain becoming the highest run scorer with 687 runs at an average of 137.40. This included three centuries and two fifties.

Throughout his career, Steve Smith has won multiple awards including ICC Test Player of the Year in 2015 and the Allen Border Medal for the best player in Australian cricket in 2015 and 2018. In 2017 he also reached a Test battle rating of 947, the second highest of all time.

Smith is a right-handed batsman with a unique playing style that’s attracted much attention over the years for being different. He moves around frequently in the crease, especially during a bowler’s run-up, and controls the bat with his bottom hand.
