Despite being far taller than most jockeys at 5’ 10’’ (1.78m), Tony McCoy is one of the best-known figures in the horse racing world. Originally from Northern Ireland and based in both Ireland and the UK, he enjoyed a fruitful racing career before retiring in 2015. Take a look at our extensive gallery of Tony McCoy photos today and choose your favourite prints.

Sir Anthony Peter McCoy OBE was knighted in 2016 and won numerous Sports Personality of the Year awards while in his prime. He made his mark on the racecourse riding a record 4,358 winners and was crowned Champion Jockey a record 20 consecutive times. McCoy sealed his 4000th career win riding Mountain Tunes trained by Jonjo O’Neil in the Weatherbys Novices’ Hurdle at Towcester on 7 November 2013. With two hurdles left to jump, Mountain Tunes didn’t look set to win, but McCoy rallied round to beat Kris Spin ridden by Jamie Moore in the final strides.

His first win came at the tender age of 17 when he rode Legal Steps in Ireland and was followed by a string of great successes. Career highlights included riding winners in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and the King George VI Chase. After three third-place finishes in the Grand National, Tony McCoy eventually stormed to glory in April 2010, riding racing legend Don’t Push It. This horse was trained by Jonjo O’Neil and owned by J.P. McManus. McCoy’s Grand National win was his fifteenth Grand National attempt.
