To qualify for the finals themselves represented a landmark achievement for Wales whose last appearance in the final stages of a major international tournament was in 1958.
Having reached the finals Wales progressed from the group stages as group winners with a superb performance against Russia in the final game of the group.
After a tense victory over Northern Ireland in the last 16, Wales then registered arguably their greatest ever win in the quarter final with a 3-1 win over Belgium, ranked #2 in the World.
Although the dream ended in the semi-final with a 2-0 defeat by a Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Portugal, the Wales squad will return home a national heroes and the 2016 European Championships will forever live in the memory of Welsh football fans.
