A stunning collage to celebrate England’s memorable performance at the 2018 World Cup Finals in Russia. England defied all pre-tournament expectations reaching the semi-final for the first time since 1990.

Manager Gareth Southgate assembled a team of young and inexperienced players and many felt that this World Cup would come too early. England progressed through the group stages with a last minute winner in the opening game against Tunisia from Talisman and captain Harry Kane, a record 6-1 win over Panama including a hat-trick from Harry Kane and a loss against Belgium as key players were rested.

Shock results elsewhere opened up the draw for England and hope and expectation back home reached fever pitch as they prepared for their last 16 game with Colombia. The young team unburdened by history won through in a dramatic penalty shoot out – their first in World Cup history. England faced Sweden in the quarter final – another historically difficult obstacle for England. A thundering header from giant centre back Harry Maguire gave England the lead and a 2nd half goal from Dele Alli secured the win as fans found themselves almost able to relax and enjoy a World Cup Knockout game involving an England team - a far cry from the agonies of past World Cups.

Many observers commented on how England’s performances on the field and behaviour off the field had united a country divided by Brexit, had reignited a love and passion for the England Football team and filled all fans with great hope for what the young team can achieve in the future. The semi-final, despite Kieran Trippier’s superb early free kick, proved a step too far but the team will return home as heroes.
