A Rural Sport, A popular event during the recent village Fete at Northleach (Glos) was the ìTossing the Sheafî item during the sports programme. In this event, well-known in agricultural districts, farm workers compete to see who can pitchfork a heavy sheaf (in this particular case packed in sacking) the highest. This feat requires a knack, as well as considerable strength, which is acquired by agricultural workers only after long practice.
