2014 Ryder Cup Team Special
A stunning montage to celebrate Europe’s victory over the USA at the 2014 Ryder Cup - Glory at Gleneagles for Paul McGinley’s European Team.
The European Team entered the 2014 Ryder Cup for the first time as favourites to lift the trophy. With the world’s #1 ranked golfer Rory McIlroy and other top ranked golfers Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson in the ranks together with experienced campaigner Lee Westwood and European Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter – Team Europe looked a formidable outfit. Backed up by in-form rookies Victor Dubuisson, Stephen Gallacher and Jamie Donaldson the team had strength throughout – so crucial in the final day singles.
As the matches unfolded the strength of the European team told on the Americans as Europe entered the final day with a 10-6 lead. Captain Paul McGinley marshalled his troops magnificently, sending out fresh, highly motivated foursomes pairings who dominated the afternoon sessions on Thursday and Friday – winning the foursomes 7-1 overall, surely the single biggest factor in Europe winning the trophy.
The European team ensured the Americans didn’t inflict a “Medinah” like comeback by roaring out the blocks in the singles led by the world’s best player Rory McIlroy who defeated Rickie Fowler of the USA 5&4. Rory McIlroy was an incredible 8 under par as the players shook hands. Fellow Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell turned around a 3 hole deficit to come back and beat Jordan Spieth. There were other memorable final day singles wins for Martin Kaymer and Sergio Garcia. However as is the case in all Ryder Cups all eyes are on the player who might win the crucial point that secures victory. In 2014 it was the turn of Welshman Jamie Donaldson who hit a glorious wedge shot to within 2 feet to claim victory over Keegan Bradley to give Europe the 14 ½ points required for outright victory.
Players and fans celebrated a well deserved victory – Europe’s third in a row and the 8th win in 10 matches since 1995. The Americans will have much to think about before the players meet again on US soil for the 2016 Ryder Cup matches.
The team special is available as a 28” x 20” Photographic print, mounted or mounted and framed. The photographic print comes a single print with all the player names and captions in place.
